SITUATION: Throughout
our Holy Bible there are numerous references and commandments that
give us direction and procedures on how to care for our planet or
God‘s creation. It also talks about the value of creation for
its own sake and about the call for all people to worship God and
about the mandate for human beings to “serve and preserve” the
creation.
We were created by God to be “Earth
Keepers”. The Bible also teaches us that care for the
creation is not one issue among many, rather it is foundational to
our human vocation as Christians.
SOME MAJOR PROBLEMS THAT HUMANS
HAVE CREATED ON EARTH ARE:
1. Our soils are eroding and the soil materials
are moving into our rivers, streams, and lakes causing
degradation of our waters that we also need for livelihood.
2. The air we breathe is being contaminated,
causing human health issues as well as some major impact on
vegetation, our forests and wildlife.
3. Through massive amount of consumption by all
people we have been degrading our surrounding and our
environment.
4. Thus humans have not followed God’s
commandments resulting in the pollution of our soils, water and
air, the very elements we need to sustain ourselves and other
people living on this earth.
SOME SOLUTIONS TO THE
PROBLEMS
Our Calvary Congregation in cooperation
with other congregations can play a crucial role in implementing
the care for the creation program with our on going parish life and
it the lives of our members.
With the growing population world wide,
with the increase in consumption of our nature resources, the care
for the planet has not kept pace with the growing demand of goods
and resources.
Human kind must take some unusual steps to stem
the tide of massive consumption and over utilization of God’s
Creation. We must make a concerted effort to become Earth
Keepers.
SO WHAT CAN I DO AS A MEMBER OF
CALVARY?
1. Continue to study the Bible to understand what God has to say
about his creation.
2. Begin to look at ways that you as one individual can do small
things to save our soil, air and water. For some suggestions
