Caring for Our
Creation - Earth Keepers
Being appreciative and respectful of this
beautiful earthly paradise we have been given involves being aware
and mindful of many things. We know we should not foul or lay
waste the soil, water, or air. We should not treat our Earth
as something to be depleted as fast as we want for our pleasure,
convenience or wealth. That is bad stewardship. Our
natural world should be respected for its own value, for the wisdom
of creation, which lies beyond our understanding. Our Earth
and its future generations require us to use our intellect and
reason toward preserving the beauty, diversity and bounty entrusted
to us.
There are already many caring Earth keepers in
our congregation and our community. They are involved in many
aspects of respecting and preserving what we have been given.
This Lutheran Earth keepers group endeavors to grow a stronger
sense of responsibility, a new active awareness regarding our gift
of life on Earth. We have too long ignored this part of the
Bible’s instruction.
We will begin this Lutheran Earth keeper
series with some basic science about the part that carbon plays in
our lives and our earthly environment. We hope, as the year
proceeds, to help all of us know more useful things about easy,
inexpensive (even money-saving) ways to preserve the health of our
soil, water and air.
