At the August meeting of Calvary Church Council action was taken to
implement a ”Care for the Creation” program which would help all
members of the congregation to become Earth Keepers. These ideas of
“Care for the Creation” were presented to the Council by three
members of the congregation that attended an NE. MN. ELCA training
session in Duluth on July 24. Peter Hovland, Marty Carlson and Paul
Larson brought back information which was developed and presented
by the Lutheran Coalition for Public Policy in Minnesota. The LCPPM
was formed as a result of ELCA social statement written at the 1993
National Gathering in Kansas City. The Care for the Creation plan
is still unfolding. But some of the first work will be to meet with
committees working within Calvary. It is our hope that these
committees would consider some of the concepts presented at the
Duluth meeting. These approaches would help not only our Church,
but our homes and the community to save and conserve our natural
resources. Scientists inform us that we must reduce our carbon foot
print. We are also reminded that these are spiritual concepts. As
Genesis 2:15 reminds us – The Lord God took the man and put him in
the garden of Eden to till it and keep it. As God’s people we are
called to see the spiritual dimension present in all of God’s
creation. God’s spirit is alive and well. We are called to be Earth
Keepers, making God’s creation a good place in which All life forms
live in harmony. So watch for activity in the development of the
“Care for the Creation” program and the work by Calvary Earth
Keepers. It is coming your way this fall and winter.
